about pediatric speech therapy

What is pediatric speech therapy?

Pediatric speech therapy is a specialized form of speech therapy that helps children develop and improve their communication skills, including speaking, understanding language, and using speech to interact with others. It also addresses difficulties related to feeding, swallowing, and oral motor functions. Speech therapists work with children who have challenges with speech, language, voice, fluency (such as stuttering), or cognitive-communication skills.

Our therapists have experience with specialized treatment methods such as VitalStim, Beckman Oral Motor, and TalkTools Oral Placement Therapy.

Commonly treated conditions

Pediatric speech therapy is used to treat a variety of conditions that affect children's ability to communicate and interact effectively. Some commonly treated conditions include:

  • Speech Delays
  • Articulation Disorders
  • Language Disorders
  • Stuttering (Fluency Disorders)
  • Voice Disorders
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Cognitive-Communication Disorders
  • Feeding and Swallowing Disorders
  • Down Syndrome
  • Hearing Loss
  • Apraxia of Speech (Childhood Apraxia of Speech)
  • Selective Mutism
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Pediatric speech therapy helps address these conditions by improving communication skills, promoting social interaction, and assisting with daily activities like schoolwork, play, and self-expression. Therapy is tailored to each child's individual needs and may include activities like play, exercises, and speech practice.
